"A trip to hell", A trip to strong faith -- An Encounter with Pastor Philip Mantofa

It’s 1:08am. Just came back home after a long day outside.

Exhausted and tired but deep in my heart I rejoice – I saw scores of people running to altar tonight, committing their lives to Jesus. Instead of going to the Valley of Torture, they chose the road to eternal life.

Turning on the power of my cell phone after tonight’s Evangelistic Meeting, I got tons of phone calls and voice messages. Have to admit that I got a bit frustrated for the chaos that happened today on campus while I couldn't offer assistance from outside. And yet, Lord has his mercy and things are always in his plan, even at times it may not seems good at the beginning. On the ride back home, I read Pastor Philip’s book “A trip to Hell”, I felt relief -- Things on earth will change and therefore only prepare those things in heaven.

What can one ask for when you see people receiving salvation? The young lady that I brought to the meeting came to Christ, in the very last minute. I am glad – in seeing 'a new life’. The burden on her shoulder, the sufferings in the past got to go away. While we prayed for her, her tears fell down. She has been affected by demons for long, she said.

Since last night, I kept praying for a mission for my new cell group and the youth in my University and in Hong Kong. While I wept in hearing Pastor Phillip’s sermon today, the verse that read last night in Wendy Andrew’s Facebook video appeared : (Thanks Wendy for sharing such great video of campus prayer at University of Missouri-Kansas City! It's exciting in seeing people are praying for Lord's presence for their campuses all over the world !)

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion –
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planning of the Lord
for the display of his splendor” (以賽亞書 Isaiah 61:1-3)

Oh Lord, yes, we are here in bringing those bounded and heartbroken to a new life.

Still remember how Pastor Philip shared his experience in an Evangelistic meeting in Indonesia with the presences of radical non-believers. While he preached, these people also prayed in their ways and disturbed the meeting. Preaching in an area with lots of radical believers of other religions, you are basically put your life at stake. And yet, Pastor Philip has faith in Christ—a strong one. He said : “Not because who I am but because I AM WHAT I BELIEVE.” And that’s powerful.

After he talked about the situation in Hell and started telling us that he should call out people in the name of Jesus to command Satan to release people, my whole body was shaking – this is the situation you have to experience yourself -- the work of Holy Spirit. Pastor Phillips is truly an anointing person. I later saw people were crying, raised their hands to ask God to be their saviors. Lord, this is amazing experience. Lord, this is YOUR work!

It’s close to 2:30am now.

Lord, physically, I am extremely tired and yet my heart rejoices simply because the picture you made me saw tonight. Pastor Philip said we would be shaken and sleepless after the eyes of our heart been opened for the lost spirit and the younger generation in Hong Kong. Lord, I love them and please save them. Lord, I was so thankful for what you have done tonight. Lord, shake us and move us. For those unsaved lives, for those being captive by Satan and for those heartbroken, Lord.

Come to us Lord. Holy spirit, our great Counselor, please comes.

Father, you are in me and I am in you. (John 14:20)

Lord raises up different people in Hong Kong

Attending grand ball room banquet is my least favourite evening activity.

However, with the invitation of the church, I was 'lucky' enough in attending a sumptuous banquet dinner last Friday, 9 June 2007 at the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre. The dinner was organized for fund-raising and vision sharing in preparing the Hong Kong Franklin Graham Festival . There were more than 150 tables serving 1000 guests. Have to admit that this was probably the most
luxurious dinning place I ever attended in my whole life.

Yet to be fully recovered from the flu and more importantly, that was the third banquet in a row within the same week, I couldn't enjoy it much at its commencement. However, things changed after I met Lord's servants.

During the dinner, I heard the sharing by Rev. Dr. Raymond C. Lee and his wife Priscilla H. Lee. They both grew up in an affluent family and never worry about life. Ever since the establishment of Oasis Development Enterprises in Boston, United States in 1995, the couple have worked successfully in their business. It is therefore hard for me to imagine that they are willing to roll their sleeves and served the under-privileges in Calcutta and Cambodia for more than 10 years !!! It's always easy to talk about loving people from a far distant, and yet living with them is another story. For those who have been to mission trips in the under-developed areas probably know what I mean. To me, they are not only Christians but also Jesus followers. There are lots of Christians in this world but what did Jesus do in his life? He asked us to "go" and Jesus by his role model to live in Lord's words. The philosophy is difficult for most of the people in Hong Kong, the fast-moving materialistic business hub, to comprehend. Let alone these CEOs. The Lees sharing was thus startling.

The dinner moved on after I kept going back and forth between the dinning place and the restroom. The second speaker drew my attention -- her name is familiar but I knew little about her. She is Agnes Cheung (蔣麗萍). She didn't talk much but used her talent (singing) to testify Lord's mercy and love. When someone has Jesus in their lives, the fruit of the spirits are just radiated from all of their expressions. Agnes Cheung used to be a pop Hong Kong singer in the 80s. She still sang but now for a different reason. In this society, we learnt different skills to pretend we learn something or we are someone. For those who truly devoted their lives to Christ, the inner beauty is just far beyond words and transcended any kind of skill.

What a little faith of myself. It's always come to my mind that these celebrities are only having the tag of "Christian". They would still living in the way of lives that they used to be and yet at the same time enjoying the mere title of "a Christian". After meeting Linda Ma of City Renewal and now Rev Raymond Lee and Agnes Cheung
, I think a paradigm shift is needed for how Lord is going to use his servants in sending the good news.

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." (1 Corinthians, 2:9 kjv)

Thank you Lord. You are always beyond one's imagination. We thought you will only use those missionaries. Sorry Lord, we are too narrowed sight. Open the eyes of our heart and let us always see your will and heart.

Thank you for sharing with us how you changed life and more importantly use these lives. They are humbles and willing to lift up all the praises back to your glory. Thank you Lord for loving us, and the people in Hong Kong.

The Commencement of Purity Movement in Hong Kong

Sun, 11 Feburary 2007

The crticial small is making a significant difference in the purity movement in Hong Kong. It's amazing in seeing more than a thousand of youth gathered at Chartered Garden, the core part of Hong Kong right next to the Legislative Council in making a vow to Lord for purity.

Really praise Lord for making this happen and having supports from youth pastors and lots of others spiritual fathers and mothers connecting the two generations. Throughout the whole gathering in this downtown open plaza, I could feel the holy spirit among us --

When Pastor Jaeson shared his words, I could tell he was filled abudently by Lord. Lord really captivated his heart for speaking about his experience of being so close to be an aborted child. Though I already heard about his testimonial in the UC San Diego gathering last summer, the message is still very powerful. Jaeson reminded us for our identity in Lord -- we are the prince and princess to Lord. Lord loves us and treasures us as the way every father loves his son. Therefore, not only our mind belongs to Lord, our body and everything are from Lord. He also shared with us that far before we had the purity ring here in Hong Kong, he had put on his ring and promised to Lord that he would give his 20s to him. Born and grow up in America, he bravely admitted in the venue that he is still a virgin in this 26th of his life. He promised Lord that he will give the best to his future wife. At the age of 20, he had made the vow of being the bridegroom of Jesus and made Jesus as the only source of pleasure. The prime eight years in 20s would be completely to Lord. It was so encourging !! If we say we have peer pressure in facing temptation, I am sure it's far more difficult among the youth in the States! Lord, you are amazing. I had seen this man talked for a number of times and every time he shared your words, he always filled with your spirit!! Lord, really praise you for all your work in this youth pastor who somehow connected Hong Kong and USA.

Valient Cheung, another youth leader in the Embrace Campus Movement, also shared about the situation of abortion in Hong Kong. Just 6 days ago, he leaded the students from different Universities and Colleges in Hong Kong to pray for Lord's mercy on abortion in Hong Kong at the Joint-Institutions Prayer Gathering. In that Monday night (5 Feb 07), the baby's tears touched the hearts of many College students. We all cried out with all our strengths for these innocent babies whom were killed before they could even make a voice. This afternoon, when Valient talked about the abortion again, heart-breaking sobs were all over the venue. Lord had opened up our heart to feel his heart -- it's bitter and painful. In this CBD of Hong Kong Island, we kneed down, admitted the sins of the city and cried out to Lord for his forgiveness. It shaked my heart as I nearly finished a pack of tissue just for this prayer. Not that I got similiar experience as Jaeson had but I somehow withnessed myself had been a helper in making this happen. Several College students of mine once talked to me about their decisions in giving up the unprepared babies. I didn't stop them and at times even thought it might be good for them so that they could move on their lives. Lord, I pray for your forgiveness -- not only those who gave up the babies but those, like the me, who had once didn't stop the things happened. Lord, we are sorry. We are sorry for what we did at the time we didn't have you in our life.

Lord, we want to give ourselves to you. I prayed with my burning heart for campus purity - particuarly in the University hostels/domorities. These people have to know you and know that what they are doing made them suffered. May your people in every University hostel be willing to stand out for purity -- even among the roommate's request for having their partners staying over. Even when we are too shy or trying to be liberal for this kind of cheating thoughts from Satan, we have to stand firm and proclaim the land that belongs to you ! We proclaim your righteousness and purity in every place where the youth gathered Lord.

Let your glory be here Lord.

Greatest Love from heavenly father

Greatest Love at HK Stadium_23Dec06 (1)

It's great to have another opportunity to worship Lord and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with thousands of other Christians in the Hong Kong Stadium!

Pastors Jaeson Ma and Ma Kin-ming shared the real meaning of love with us tonight. What most of the family currently lacks of is the relationship between the older and the younger generations. For the youth, we may be too rebellious for our parents. For parents, we may use our ways in teaching the kids and thereafter hurt them without knowing it. The reconciliation between the two generations is thus important. Without this, it's difficult to comprehen the real love from our heavenly father.

I was moved not by the number of people on the site but the time when Jaeson shared his words with us. Not the skills or the mere content he had but rather the presences of Holy spirit in him. Lord uses those who are submissive -- I can see why the words came out from Jaeson's are that powerful. He has the holy spirit, filled him abudently. Really praise the Lord for this!

Towards the end of 2006, I realized how significant this year is for me. When I recalled my days in this year, somehow lots of things are connected together -- Lord really has his plan. Before that, I do not know Jaeson but just roughly heard about his name -- thinking that he is that kind of respected senior pastor in church. During my plan to a summer conference to San Francisco, I somehow got the link of his blog via the conference organizer website. This is how I started getting to know all these campus transformation work. It's truly amazing -- I wrote him an email telling that somehow the conference to be held in UC San Deigo drew my attention, though I personally did know have a cue why. I am no longer a College student nor studying in US campuses. Though I have no idea of what it means, I am willing to be submissive and thus wrote him an email (still remember it's 5 June) asking if the conference is only targeted for College students? I am no longer one. The closest link will be I work and reside on campus and love College students. Guess what? He told me that he actually was in HK for the Global Day of Prayer on 4 June and asked the HK rep to see if anyone would come to the UCSD conference but they couldn't find one. They then prayed about it. And then he received my email on 5 June! (of course I did not know all these). Lord is really an almighty Lord ! He answered prayer and has everything in his plan. It's quite substantial for a person who used to be very "rational" like me. How can one explains everything when it just fits so well? After all these, I learnt that as long as you are willing to be submissive, Lord will do the remaining part.

Thank you Lord and thank you for what you have done on Hong Kong!
